British Columbia – Lower Mainland

Lead Guides + Canoe Instructor - Click for position details

Contract Length:

  • Start date: TBD
  • End date: TBD – end of June, with the possibility of an extension until mid-end of September

 

Pay:

  • based on position and experience.

 

Locations:

  • potential candidates must reside within the Lower Mainland, have personal transportation, and be willing to travel occasionally throughout their contract to Vancouver Island and the Interior. Travel pay included.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • LEAD GUIDE – 
    • Instruct Intro Tandem, Solo + Big Canoe Courses
    • Lead a team of guides during day and overnight trips
    • General paperwork for trips including Incident reports, Regular checks related to vehicles, trailers and canoes prior to your trips, Weather Logs relating to water levels, fire bans etc for the lakes/areas you will be paddling as well as collecting properly filled out waiver forms from the clients upon their arrival
    • Maintain quality, efficiency, and professionalism for your team of guides + the program itself
    • Stick to provided itineraries as best as possible, while still being able to problem solve and adapt where needed
    • Ensure the safety of both the staff and clients while on trip
    • Lead activities during day and overnight trips that include (but are not limited to): Historical, Geographical and Environmental Information for paddling locations, Basic First Aid, Map and compass reading, plant identification, Wilderness Code of conduct, Shelter building, tarp use and knots, camp cooking etc. (all programming provided by us and included in our training)
    • Communication with the office before, during and after your trips
    • Packing/Prepping and clean-up of trips/courses

 

Paid training included: 

    • Small and Big Canoe Training
    • Instructor training for Lead Guides coming in with experience, but no certificates
    • Wilderness First Aid Training
    • Duke of Edinburgh Program Training
    • Floating Classroom Training

 

Certificates included:

    • Paddle Canada Intro Tandem Canoe Certificate
    • Paddle Canada Big Canoe Certificate
    • Remote (and/or Wilderness) First Aid Certificate with CPR C + AED (The Canadian Red Cross)
    • Some candidates may also be offered to obtain their canoe instructorship by Paddle Canada for lake level intro tandem/intro solo canoeing, as well as lake level big canoe instructor

Additional Requirements:

    • Must be able to provide a clean driving record and valid drivers license
    • Must be able to provide a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Record Check prior to receiving a contract
    • Must have a basic food safe certificate
    • Canoe Guiding experience is an asset, but not necessary. If you have love for being on the water and in the outdoors recreationally, we still want to hear from you! We are happy invest the time to train the right candidates and bring their skills up to par.
Secondary Guides - Click for position details

Contract Length:

  • Start date: TBD

Locations:

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • SECONDARY GUIDES – 
    • Steer canoes of varies sizes during day and overnight trips
    • Assist your lead guide with unloading/loading of canoes and gear
    • Assist your lead guide with programming delegated to you before or during trips
    • Maintain quality, efficiency and professionalism while guiding a program
    • Ensure the safety of your fellow staff members and our clients
    • Packing/Prepping and Clean up of trips/courses

 

Paid training included:

Summer Camp Manager

Contract Length:

  • Start date: Early June – date TBD
  • End date: First week of September

 

Pay:

  •  based on position and experience.

 

Locations:

  • potential candidates must reside within the Lower Mainland, have personal transportation, and be willing to travel throughout their contract to camp locations. Travel pay included.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight:
    • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the summer day camp, implementing pre-established programs and schedules.
    • Oversee the execution of planned activities, ensuring they align with the predetermined camp objectives.
  • Staff Supervision:
    • Provide guidance and support to camp staff in executing their assigned responsibilities.
    • Monitor staff performance to ensure adherence to established protocols and standards.
  • Enforce Safety Protocols:
    • Implement and enforce existing safety and emergency procedures to ensure the well-being of campers and staff.
    • Conduct regular safety checks of facilities and equipment.
  • Communication with Parents:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camp activities and updates.
    • Address any concerns or inquiries from parents promptly and professionally.
  • Staff Training Oversight:
    • Ensure that camp staff are familiar with and adhere to pre-determined training guidelines.
    • Facilitate any necessary training refreshers based on existing materials.
  • Budget Adherence:
    • Monitor expenditures and manage the camp budget within pre-established parameters.
    • Seek approval for any deviations from the budget and implement cost-saving measures when necessary.
  • Facility Management:
    • Collaborate with facility management to ensure proper maintenance and functionality of camp facilities.
    • Address any immediate facility-related issues and coordinate solutions.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of camper registrations, staff certifications, and other relevant documentation.
    • Generate reports as needed based on existing templates and requirements.
  • Compliance Assurance:
    • Ensure that the camp operates in compliance with established regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards.
    • Keep up-to-date with any changes in compliance standards and make adjustments accordingly.
  • Crisis Response:
    • Implement pre-defined emergency response plans and conduct drills as necessary.
    • Manage and resolve any issues or incidents using established protocols.
  • Qualifications:
    • Previous experience in camp management or a related role.
    • Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Familiarity with safety and emergency procedures.
    • First Aid and CPR certification preferred, however, if not current we can assist you in obtaining you certification.

British Columbia – Bowron Lake Chain

Lead Guide - Click for position details

Contract Length:

  • Start date: June 
  • End date: September 

 

Pay:

  • base trip rate + tips per trip with an additional hourly rate for all prepping/packing/cleaning shifts.
  • Glamping Style Accommodations included on Bowron Lake for the Lead Guide.
  • Potential to earn tips after each trip!

 

Trip Information:

  • There will be approximately 6 Bowron Lake Circuit trips between June and September Touring your way through the Bowron Lake Circuit. Each trip will have anywhere from 6-12 participants. We include all gear, canoes and food during our trips. Each trip runs for 7 nights.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • LEAD GUIDE –
    • Lead a group of 6-12 participants through the Bowron Lake Circuit
    • Occasionally managing and delegating tasks to a secondary guide (for trips with more than 10 participants)
    • Maintain the equipment and canoes on site
    • Meeting with each group the night before their trip begins to run over the schedule of events and what to expect
    • Ensuring the safety of both yourself, your secondary guide and the clients
    • Maintaining the quality, efficiency and professionalism of the program and staff
    • Order, prepping and packaging gear, food and equipment for the trip (Separate hourly pay for prepping, packing and cleaning shifts)
    • Monitoring water levels, forest fires, weather changes etc. that may impact your trip
    • Sticking to an itinerary provided to you, while also having the confidence to problem solve on the spot and adapt where necessary
    • Daily check ins before, during and after with the office
    • Small amount of paperwork which would need to be submitted to the office at the end of the trip or end of the season, depending. (bi-weekly maintenance reports, questionnaires, client forms, incident reports etc.)
    • Lead Guide experience, working with groups, hospitality industry experience and amazing customer service required!
    • Canoeing and moving water experience preferred.

Training: 

  • First trip you will be accompanied by your trainer.

Alberta – Rundle Park

Rental Centre Associate - Seasonal

Job Description: Associates will report directly to the Rental Manager and facilitate rentals while providing an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional rental experience at our paddle sports rental centre in Rundle Park.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist customers with paddle sports equipment rentals
  • Provide excellent customer service and safety information
  • Maintain rental equipment and rental area organization
  • Process rental transactions and complete required documentation
  • Represent Ridge Wilderness Adventures in a positive and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Previous paddling experience and knowledge of paddle sports equipment, techniques, and safety practices is preferred
  • Strong Communication and customer Service skills
